Evidence-Based Couples Counselling Methods used in Couples Therapy

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) - EFT is an evidence-based model of couple’s therapy that has developed alongside the science on adult attachment and bonding. Emotionally Focused Therapy focuses on helping couples to restructure their attachment bond. Research studies find that 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery and approximately 90% show significant improvements in relationship satisfaction. In therapy a couples emotional world is considered central to the way they structure their relationship and therefore central to the process of change.

Gottman Method Couples TherapyCombining the knowledge and wisdom of nearly forty years of studies and clinical practice, Gottman Method Couples Therapy helps couples break through barriers to achieve greater understanding, connection and intimacy in their relationships. Through research-based interventions and exercises, it is a structured, goal-oriented, scientifically-based therapy. Intervention strategies are based upon empirical data from Dr Gottman’s study of more than 3,000 couples. This research shows what actually works to help couples achieve a long-term healthy relationship.
